Tigard Oregon is known as one of the most livable cities in the State of Oregon. Our city of Tigard was incorporated in 1061. The community is one that is described as a family-friendly place to live. Tigard is also more affordable than Portland and is only 12 miles south of Portland.
Historic Downtown Tigard
This historic district is currently undergoing a transformation. The preliminary design phase is underway on the Universal Plaza in Downtown. The Plaza is slated to offer a large special event space that will be able to handle major events. The conceptual plans include a splash pad, a tree canopy maze, and an artwork and tool sharing pavilion. The City Center Urban Renewal Plan has a goal to “develop urban spaces that provide active and passive recreational opportunities for pedestrians and attract residents and visitors to downtown.”
Parks and Recreation
Tigard Oregon residents also enjoy more than 16 miles of paved trails. The parks and open spaces account for about 550 acres. Tigard is home to 5 major community parks that include trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, sports fields, wetlands, and so much more. There are also twelve neighborhood parks that give residents easy and close access to a natural setting. There are also three community gardens, the Greenfield Community Garden, the Jack Park Community Garden, and the Metzger Community Garden.
The City of Tigard Oregon offers a road map that they refer to as the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. With this plan, the city sets its vision for the future of Tigard’s parks and recreation ideas and investments.
Schools
There are thirteen officially divided geographical neighborhoods around elementary schools and public transportation routes and each and every neighborhood has an assigned number. But it is important to point out that the City of Tigard is under construction and new neighborhoods are taking over what used to be farmlands, growing the city by leaps and bounds. As of the 2010 census, the population was just over 48,000. When the 2020 census comes out, we believe that that number is going to skyrocket due to all of the construction and expansion that Tigard Oregon is seeing.
The city’s educational district is for the most part in the jurisdiction of Tigard-Tualatin School District which is comprised of ten elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. But parts of the northwestern areas of the city rests in the Beaverton School District.
Local Attractions
Tigard Oregon is rich with local attractions. The John Tigard House, which was the home of the city’s founder, stands proud after being saved by scheduled demolition plans in 1970 and was registered as a National Historic Place in 1979. The Broadway Rose Theatre Company features professional, Broadway-style musicals that have received several awards for their excellence in musical theatre.
The new iFly attraction, opposite of the Tigard Medical Mall, is a place where people of all ages can experience the joy and thrill of skydiving indoors and a great place to also celebrate a Birthday.

Tigard Oregon is a place that enjoys and celebrates its community with plenty of local events.
The Taste of Tigard
The Taste of Tigard event is held in June. A food festival where you can sample many of the eclectic culinary tasty treats cooked up by local businesses. There is much to celebrate here as Tigard Oregon takes on some of the most innovative flavors in an atmosphere of the celebration of food and beverage.
Downtown Street Fair
When the Downtown Street Fair takes place, it is a wonderful mix of art and crafts, great entertainment, fabulous food, and a chance to mingle with the community. Hosted by the Tigard Downtown Alliance, you will discover great family-friendly fun and free admission.
Latino Heritage Celebration
Every September the Tigard community celebrates the Latino heritage and culture with lively music, dancing, food, and more. A colorful event for the whole family.
Downtown Art Walk
The Downtown Ark Walk is produced by the city of Tigard in conjunction with the Tigard Downtown Alliance. The art walk takes place in the Spring on Main Street and local artists of all types are invited to show off their work which is displayed inside of participating downtown businesses.
Farmer's Market
The area in and around Tigard Oregon is a very rich and fertile agricultural area. Many local farmers bring their fruits and vegetables to weekly community gatherings in the Spring Summer and Fall. The Tigard Farmers Market has much to offer including family fun, food, entertainment, flowers, plants, local honey-baked goods as well as locally grown fruits and vegetables. The Farmers Market takes place on Burnham Street just off of Main Street. The street is blocked off to traffic. A second framers’ market at the foot of Bull Mountain also takes place for added family enjoyment.
Shopping
Washington Square Mall is one of Oregon’s premiere shopping malls. Explore family fun and fine upscale shopping with all the major stores such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, Lush, William Sonoma, a Tesla showroom, Godiva Chocolates, Apple, and a large number of fine jewelry stores and great places to eat drink, and gather. Kids love the mall with its indoor playground and seasonal visits from Santa and the Easter Bunny.
Bridgeport Village is also a very upscale shopping experience that is open-air. Shop at Crate and Barrel, Apple, and many high-end specialty shops. There is plenty of wonderful places to eat and drink. Entertainment takes center stage in the village on a regular basis and Christmas is especially dazzling with lights, décor music, and a Santa’s Northwest home.

Tigard City Hall Tigard City Hall is conveniently located in downtown Tigard. City Hall is where all civil actions take place.

City Hall is the place that individuals will go when they are looking for such services such as, emergency management, municipal court, permit services, prescription cards, public records, building permits, and utility billing.
City Hall also houses such departments as the police department, city management, community development, human resources, public works, library and budget, and finance. Urban renewal and housing such as senior housing, affordable housing, and homeless resources are also housed in City Hall.
In order to protect its citizens in a disaster, Tigard offers complimentary maps of your neighborhood in an effort to help you better prepare for a disaster. This effort helps residents learn how to secure their homes and protect their neighborhoods right after a disaster hits.
This map identifies neighbors who have emergency skills and equipment to assist in disasters. Also informs about shut-off sites for natural gas, propane tanks, and water services.
The maps also identify neighborhood gathering places for shelter and information for people who may require special assistance such as children and the elderly.
The City of Tigard has engaged several trained volunteers to help neighborhoods come together and establish emergency action plans. By contacting City Hall, you can have one of these trained volunteers come out to your neighborhood and provide disaster training.
Washington Square Mall, Tigard Oregon's Premier Shopping Destination
Washington Square Mall is just minutes away from our dental office. It serves a very large population and several surrounding cities and towns because it is such a vast shopping experience, in fact, Washington Square is Oregon’s premier destination for great food and fabulous shopping. There are four major anchor stores, Nordstrom, Macy’s, JCPenny, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
You will find Currency Exchange International, CXI within the mall. They specialize in foreign currency exchange right there inside the mall. They will buy and sell more than 80 different currencies. They exchange foreign and domestic Traveler’s checks and they also hold currencies of all kinds that are exchanged daily. You can make a reservation for exchange online and the CXI is conveniently located inside the mall. Just use the Summit Entrance for easy access. Look for the elevator that brings you up to the food court and there you will find the Currency Exchange International office.
The mall, like most malls, has a food court that offers a huge array of fast-food services. Aside from the food court, there are also many other sit-down types of restaurants, not only in the mall itself but also surrounding the mall. There really is something for everyone with no shortage of a variety of food and beverage options.
